Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov

This book is so many things. Too many things. Perverse. Mystifying. Poignant. Sinister. Tragic. And yes, at times even comical.

I thought for sure the sociopath in me would feel absolutely no sympathy for Humbert Humbert. I was wrong (damn you Nabokov!) because for a mere few pages I did. I was sure I would give this book 3 stars out of 5 at the most, but as I kept reading I discovered this type of writing deserves 5 because it is the kind of writing that makes you want to be a writer. I think everyone should read this book at least once in their life.

  1. I have read Nabakov before, but never Lolita. Kind of funny since that is his most famous work. I have always been put off by the subject material, but maybe I should give it a try.
